Liljevalch Sofa and Lounge Chair by Josef Frank

The Liljevalch sofa from 1934 was the first piece of furniture that Josef Frank designed for Svenskt Tenn. It was shown for the first time at the Liljevalch Art Gallery in Stockholm and hence the name “Liljevalch Sofa”. In a letter to Estrid Ericson Frank wrote that he had designed this large and generous sofa in protest over the prevailing functionalism and boring Swedish handicrafts. This example in Frank's "Mirakel" (Miracle) textile, his most acclaimed and sought after. The fabric shows no signs of use or wear. Sofa dimensions: 111" long, 54" deep, 26" high, 40" seat depth with pillows (46" without) 17" seat height. Chair dimensions: 49" wide, 45" deep, 25" high, 16" seat height.
